Unrevoked Forever Coming to CDMA HTC Desire, EVO and Droid Inc getting 1-click-root

The Unrevoked guys just tweeted that they have successfully ported their unrEVOked Forever app to the CDMA version of the HTC Desire. This means that owners of this phone will be able to apply the S-OFF patch and take advantage of their 1-click-root in the next version. It also looks like they have finally made some progress on the Froyo one-click-root process for both the EVO and Droid Incredible. Click on for more info.
If you aren't familiar with the S-OFF patch, it basically permanently unlocks the NAND on your device, allowing you to flash custom ROM's, updates, etc. It's also a somewhat dangerous patch to apply because it basically removes safety checks that would prevent you from flashing an incompatible ROM or update. However, because of the method used for the unlock, it is, for all intents and purposes, a permanent unlock in that it can be removed (at least not easily) by any updates that are sent OTA from your carrier.
Note that this only applies to CDMA versions of the Desire, such as the U.S. Cellular version. There is no status on when a GSM version of this unlock will be available.
In other news, the UnrEVOked masterminds appear to be ready to finally release the long-awaited one-click-root for Froyo versions of the EVO and Droid Incredible. We'll have to keep close tabs on announcements from UnrEVOked for when this will be released officially.
