Manually Update Your Sprint Epic 4G to Froyo
Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 5:16AM
It appears that Sprint and Samsung actually came through with their promise of releasing Froyo for the Epic 4G yesterday. Unfortunately, for those of us that are inpatient, the update is being rolled out in waves over the next four days.
However... If you don't want to wait, we've got you covered. If you would like to go ahead and manually update your phone to the official Froyo EB13 update, just click on through to the full article for download links and instructions.
The first thing you need to do is actually download the update. Right click on the link below and save the file to your PC. Important: do not rename the file in any way. It must be called update.zip.
Next, you'll need to copy the file to your phone's SD card. Usually, the easiest way to do this is by using the USB cable that came with your phone and mounting the phone as a disk drive when prompted on the device. When you copy the file to your SD card, make sure you do not place it in any folders. It needs to be in the root directory of your card.
Turn off your phone and disconnect it from your PC.
Now comes the actual update. While holding down the volume down button and the camera button, turn your phone on. Assuming you copied the update.zip file in to the root directory of your SD card, the update should start automatically in a few moments. Just sit back and bask in the knowledge that your phone is getting that frozen yogurt goodness.
Once the update is finished just reboot your phone and enjoy!
