CyanogenMod 7 Nightlies Come to HTC Incredible S
Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 5:48PM
Recently, the previously locked bootloader on the HTC Incredible S got unlocked. This has made it possible for developers to begin to work their voodoo magic on the device and begin the development of custom ROMs.
One of the most well known, and well-liked ROMs available for many devices is CyanogenMod. Version 7 of this popular customization is pure Gingerbread heaven. The great thing about Cyanogen is that it's built on what's called the AOSP or Android Open Source Project. It's essentially Android the way Google meant for Android to be, without manufacturer overlays, such as the bloated (but eye-candy-filled) Sense UI that comes on all HTC handsets.
The guys at Cyanogen have now brought their wares to the Incredible S. However, you should be warned that these are nightly builds, which means that every night a new version is released that fixes new bugs as they are discovered. Nightly builds are not the most stable in the world. However, if you're anxious to get rid of Sense and move to the pure Google experience, then this might be the way to go.
If you're interested in partaking in this adventure, you need to first root your phone. If you're not sure how to do that, poke around the XDA Forums a bit, and have a look at this. Next, head over to the download link below to grab the latest nightly build for yourself.
