Hulu Plus Comes To Android, Small Number of Phones Initially Supported
Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 6:23AM
Back several months ago, Hulu announced that they would be bringing atheir TV/movie streaming service to Android devices everywhere. That day has finally come, at least for a very small, select group of phones.
According to their blog, the first six devices that are supported are: Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid II, Motorola Droid X, and the Motorola Atrix. However, they emphasize that this is an early release of the app and they expect to add additional devices throughout the year.
The app is available as a free download from the Market. New users can get a 7 day trial of the service. After that, it will set you back about $8 per month. That's not to bad for being able to stream current episodes of hits such as Grey's Anatomy, House, 30 Rock, The Office, and Saturday Night Live. According to Hulu, there are over 1,000 seasons of current and classic shows (comprising more than 33,000 episodes, 16,000 of which are available on all supported devices) available via their Plus service.
In addition to being able to stream shows to your Android phone, by signing up you will also be able to stream all of their content at 720p high definition resolution to your PC or laptop.
It's unfortunate that this is only available for such a small group of phones. Hopefully, we'll see many more phones added in the next few months. For download links and the full blog post from Hulu, skip past the break.
Hulu Plus Begins Android Roll Out
June 22nd, 2011 by Rob Wong Director, Product Management
We’ve always said our mission is to provide the world’s premium content to people when, how and where they want it. And we know that a lot of people want that content on their Android smartphones. We’ve been working hard to make that a reality, and today, we have begun our early rollout of the Hulu Plus application on Android smartphones.
With the first phase of the Android rollout, Hulu Plus is available on six phones, including the Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid II, Motorola Droid X, and the Motorola Atrix. We expect to add to the number of Android smartphones and will be making additional device announcements throughout the year.
The free Hulu Plus app is available for download from Android Market, and once installed, Hulu Plus subscribers will be able to enjoy the service on the go. As always, Hulu Plus offers new subscribers one free week to try the service.
