Sprint Pushing Froyo to Samsung Intercept

Just saw this come across the Twitter wires.  Sprint and Google are pushing out Froyo for those of you that have the Samsung Intercept, including my 12-year-old.  Here's a copy of the press release from Sprint.  You might want to note the comment about this update being pushed from Google, so it may be released in waves (i.e. everyone won't get it at once), presumably to prevent server overload.

Samsung Intercept Maintenance Release - Android 2.2 (DL05)

 Enhancements/Fixes:

- Android 2.2 Froyo
- Sprint Navigation
- Dropped calls after unacknowledged call waiting
- Force Close message when opening up contacts

 Important Notes:

-The software version is: S:M910.05.S.DL05
-The build version is: Froyo.DL05
-Access the Samsung Intercept Maintenance Releases blog here for install instructions

Update: This release is pushed from Google and may be released in waves, so you may not see it on your device immediately.

Instructions on checking for software updates after the jump.

Gmail Updated, Now Supports Priority Inbox

Google just released an updated version of Gmail for Android phones.  This new version (v2.3.2) includes some very desirable new features, such as much improved priority inbox support, replying from any configured email address, and easily switch between reply, reply-to-all, and forwarding.  You can also now reply to messages inline (as opposed to responses always being at the top of the email).

Fortunately, this update isn't just for Gingerbread.  Users in most countries whose phones are on Android v2.2 can grab this update from the market.  Links, QR codes, and full Google article after the break.

Locked Dell Streak Devices Going Froyo After Christmas

Thinking about picking up a Dell Dtreak for the holidays?  Already own one, but haven't rooted it to upgrade to Froyo? According to an internal memo that has started circulating the web today, it looks like the long anticipated OTA update may be coming your way as a (very) late Christmas present.

Per the memo, and as you are likely already aware, unlocked devices (i.e. those that aren't locked in to a specific carrier) should already have received a notification to update to Android 2.2.  However, those of you that are using a Streak that's locked to AT&T should see the update during the week of January 12th.

While that's still about a month away, it's certainly very promising news.  Maybe those new colors will be a hit afterall.

Official Froyo Hitting Galaxy S Devices in Korea? [Rumor]

This is a little bit of a bizarre story.  According to website ReadWriteWeb.com, reports have been appearing on several Korean news websites stating that Froyo (Android 2.2) is about to be released directly from Samsung for the Galaxy S device.

The only details we have is that is will be released today at 8:00PM (no timezone was provided) and it will be available via www.samsungmobile.com.  However, searching around Samsung's website has left me empty handed when it comes to any more information.  Read Write Web has a link on their website to a page that supposedly contains the update, but when I tried the link, the page could not be found.

Normally, I sort of toss these sorts of rumors into a bag and wait to see what happens.  However, if this is true, it could mean the Froyo release for Galaxy phones in the US and other countries may not be far behind.

Leaked Froyo for Sprint Epic 4G Available For Download

Last weekend, a supposed leaked ROM containing Froyo (Android 2.2) for the Sprint Epic 4G started making some waves around the message boards on the Internet.  Unfortunately, those who possessed the ROM weren't quite ready to share it with the world.

Today, that changed.  XDA Developers forum member |OP| has posted the rooted, deodexed, and zipaligned version of the ROM for all of the unwashed masses to have and behold.

It seems that there's a huge variance in the experience early adopters have had with the ROM.  All sorts of oddities have been reported when using it, while others are reporting no problems at all.  To be honest, I'm probably not going to flash this ROM on our Epic and instead continue to wait for a more formal version.  However, if you just can't wait to get your hands on some Epic frozen love, then head over to the official thread at XDA Developers.
