CyanogenMod 7.1 RC1 Now Available for Download

CyanogenMod is probably the most popular AOSP-based custom ROM out there.  Overnight, the wizards behind this ROM released v7.1 Release Candidate 1 of their wares.  The changelog for this release is fairly massive, and quite impressive as well.  Probably the biggest change is an upgrade to Android version 2.3.4 (from 2.3.3 in v7.0).  They are now also supporting Bluetooth mice, a wake on volume key option, and support for launching apps via gestures.  We've got the full changelog after the break.

If you're interested in taking this new release for a spin, just download it via ROM Manager, or hit up the source link after the break.  If you download it via the source link, don't forget to grab an updated copy of GAPPS (the Google apps, such as the Market, etc.).

CyanogenMod 7 Comes to Droid X, With a Few Caveats [Video]

If you're a Droid X owner, you are probably aware of the locked bootloader that has thus far seemingly thwarted efforts at bringing custom ROM's to your device.  Today, however, seems to be a bright new day for you who have waited so long.

An clever developer who goes by the Twitter handle of @cvpcs has discovered a way to port the popular Gingerbread based CyanogenMod 7 on to the Droid X.  Be advised that the bootloader on the device is still locked.  Essentially, the developer managed to port CM7 over to run on top of the stock Droid X kernel.

Unfortunately, there are still some caveats/bugs with it.  What appears to work right now are the radio, WiFi, USB, charging, various sensors, lights, vibration, and standard bluetooth. It appears that audio is now working as well, based on a recent tweet from cvpcs.  What does not work (or not sure) is the GPS, 3G/data, camera, and the camcorder.

To keep up with the latest developments on this outstanding work, be sure to follow @cvpcs on Twitter.  For a video of CM& running on the DX, skip past the break.
