Belated Christmas Present From Sprint - Froyo For Epic 4G

All the talk about Gingerbread lately is especially painful for those of you that are still stuck on Eclaire (Android 2.1).  Fortunately, for those of you with the Epic 4G, things are about to change.  There are numerous reports surfacing around the net today that seem to confirm Froyo (Android 2.2) is coming to the Epic starting on December 26th.  So Merry Christmas late, but certainly better than never.

However, before you start planning your all-you-can-eat frozen yogurt party for Sunday, remember that these updates generally won't be deployed to everyone at once.  According to Phone Arena,

Based on the screen shot of an internal memo, it appears that the DL11 build of Froyo will slowly begin to roll out as an over-the-air process starting on December 26th – with the hopes of it hitting all handsets within 4 days of its initial launch. Naturally, your best bet is to simply wait for that notification to finally hit your handset.

Wondering what to expect with this upgrade?  Read more after the break.

Fix For Bricked Samsung Intercepts With Froyo Update

Apparently, some of you that received the recent Froyo update for the Samsung Intercept haven't gotten all the sweet yumminess out it that one would expect.  According to a number of reports around the old interwebs out there, a number of users have experienced a rather bitter result after applying the update.  Their phones have become what we in the tech world call "bricked".  Basically, it means the phone won't fully boot up at all.

This is extremely unfortunate.  However, Spring is supposedly working on a solution.  Until they get off their hind quarters and release the fix, you have a couple of options should you be a victim of this horror.  The first option you have is to call Sprint customer service at 1-888-211-4PCS.  The second option is you can jump over to the rest of this article and get a copy of an a patch that should fix you right up.

Just saw this come across the Twitter wires.  Sprint and Google are pushing out Froyo for those of you that have the Samsung Intercept, including my 12-year-old.  Here's a copy of the press release from Sprint.  You might want to note the comment about this update being pushed from Google, so it may be released in waves (i.e. everyone won't get it at once), presumably to prevent server overload.

Gmail Updated, Now Supports Priority Inbox

Google just released an updated version of Gmail for Android phones.  This new version (v2.3.2) includes some very desirable new features, such as much improved priority inbox support, replying from any configured email address, and easily switch between reply, reply-to-all, and forwarding.  You can also now reply to messages inline (as opposed to responses always being at the top of the email).

Fortunately, this update isn't just for Gingerbread.  Users in most countries whose phones are on Android v2.2 can grab this update from the market.  Links, QR codes, and full Google article after the break.

Locked Dell Streak Devices Going Froyo After Christmas

Thinking about picking up a Dell Dtreak for the holidays?  Already own one, but haven't rooted it to upgrade to Froyo? According to an internal memo that has started circulating the web today, it looks like the long anticipated OTA update may be coming your way as a (very) late Christmas present.

Per the memo, and as you are likely already aware, unlocked devices (i.e. those that aren't locked in to a specific carrier) should already have received a notification to update to Android 2.2.  However, those of you that are using a Streak that's locked to AT&T should see the update during the week of January 12th.

While that's still about a month away, it's certainly very promising news.  Maybe those new colors will be a hit afterall.
